In addition to the beautiful scenery in Colorado’s national parks, there are other spectacular sites. One is the Maroon Bells Recreation Area near Aspen. I’ve heard it is actually the most popular photography site in the state of Colorado. Area management has to restrict automobile traffic and limit visitation to shuttle buses through most of the summer and early fall. There are three small, developed campgrounds present. I visited the area and camped there for a couple of nights before finishing my recent Colorado trip. The scenery is spectacular. On my first morning the winds disrupted any lake reflections at Maroon Lake. As they continued to blow through the day, I wondered if the autumn leaves could survive to another day. Fortunately the foliage lasted and the next morning was a special site, producing one of my favorite images for the year. Here’s the shot with the two 14,000 foot peaks reflecting off of the still Maroon Lake.
